Kinja'd!!!

This is my FWD 2007 Mercury Milan V6. It is my simple Daily Driver, not to exciting but it's quite a bit nicer than it's Fusion sibling.

What's entertaining today about it is the Advance Auto Parts Maintenance/Service recommendations.

Kinja'd!!!

What could be entertaining about a recommended service list?

WELL, if you notice, I DO have it selected as a FWD vehicle on the site.

The very first thing on the list is to change the fluid in the Rear Differential.

On a FWD car.

Keep up the good work guys...

I thought that and it would be fine...if they hadn't given me a FWD vs AWD selector.

Which as you can see is selected as FWD

Why would anyone check their maintenance schedule through Advanced Auto Parts?

Well I bought parts from them and it auto set me up with emails for service reminders.

When I got a reminder, I figured it wouldn't hurt to check.

At the least I got a good laugh at it (and a facepalm)

What made you such a big Mercury fan?

In other news, your 07 Milan has almost identical mileage to my 07 Grand Marquis.

Luck of the draw.

On both accounts lol.

I was originally looking for a Ford Torino to emulate my dad's old 70 Torino Drag Car. Stumbled upon an AWESOME deal on a Mercury Montego (which I'm sure you know is a Mercury version of a Torino) so I snagged it up and fell in love with the brand. I also (at the time) was working on Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury advertising globally....and driving a Chevy Blazer. It was going to be nice to be able to tell my clients I had at least ONE Ford at home. Then it came time to replace the Blazer and I basically found out I wasn't getting a promotion in the ad agency because I was driving a Chevy. So I looked at Ford products, settled in on the Fusion/Milan/MKZ line. Found a steal of a deal on a Milan that was cheaper than the Fusions because it was on the lot for a while as well as being a "dead" brand and snagged that deal too (then promptly got promoted now that I was driving a Ford product).

I still do advertising for them (among others), but at a different agency that's not so crazy lol. Both Mercury's have treated me great so far, if only they BOTH had this emblem:

07 Mercury's UNITE!

It's actually a hair higher than that at about 84k

Mercury is kind of the red headed step child of the Ford brand. I suppose that is why it went by the way side. Glad you were able to get a good deal on both vehicles though

Yeah it unfortunately is.

But a lot of people don't realize the interior was a significant upgrade and the base level Milan was probably the mid/high level Fusion for features (steering wheel controls bitches). Oh and I have an analog clock so you know that shit's fancy.

The trick is right now if you're in the used car market, you can find a Base Mercury for cheaper than a mid/high trim level Ford with the same features and a better interior for LESS money. No one thinks to go looking for a Mercury and they lose out big time on features that way.

I have noticed a similar trend with Lincoln. You get a better car for less money or a similar price in the used market with better options. Did you get the prestige of the badge. (If Lincoln even has any nowadays.)

haha, yeah I think they have a bit still.

And I wanted the Lincoln because even all the way back in 07, you got the bigger engine with the Lincoln. You could get 4 cyl, 3.0 V6 or 3.5 V6(Fusion Sport only) in the Fusion, in the Milan you could do 4 cyl or 3.0 V6. In the MKZ you always got the 3.5 V6.

The 3.0 has been doing great though so I have no complaints. And if I'm polite with my right foot I can pull 32 mpg out of it on the highway.
